Space Boyfriend - Take Care Of Me (Bug Spray ver)

It’s coming.

So I’m rereleasing my debut full-length for the new year because as it, and all of my releases, exist now, they are unfinished.  It’ll be on bandcamp, but also my first physical release!  So I have finished all of my songs, at least the ones worth finishing, and they are going on this record.  My original Space Boyfriend EP was secretly b-sides for Bug Spray.  I was just too excited to get something out.  So I hope you look forward to the new Bug Spray.  Or you’ll think I’m a George Lucas and hate it.

★☆★space boyfriend’s SPACE BLASTER TAPES☆★☆

This here is a preview/demo for a thing I wanna do.  It’s up to you to tell me if this is a good idea or sounds like crap.

So I like tapes.  Tapes are a fun kinesthetic experience that sound like garbage but are a lasting, physical activity that leaves you with a li’l bit more of a feeling like you’ve actually done something in the end.  It’s a fun thing!  And so what I wanna do is profess my love to my ghetto blaster that also happens to be a cassette recorder, and also have a personal private dance party with you, in your room or in your car or wherever you are.

I wanna make custom tapes and sell them for $10, where I perform any 6 of my songs, or however many can fit in 25 minutes, onto a tape, record it only once, straight through, and then send it to you.  That copy of the tape, that performance, is uniquely yours, through all of my dumb banter and messups or whatever else I decide to do, like grab my tambourine and go HAM on one of my songs with it that I haven’t before, or play extended versions of songs that have already appeared on records that don’t have recordings yet.  Every tape would be unique.  If you didn’t know my songs well enough, I’d pick a few of my favorites for you.  In the end, I will take a silver sharpie and doodle a space boyfriend onto it, number it, and sign it.  You will be a proud owner of a unique Space Blaster Tape.

I think this is a fun idea.  As you can hear, the sound quality isn’t fantastic.  But if you are down with this idea, please let me know.

As of now, I only have 5 tapes to do a very small run with, and they’re only 10 minutes long, 5 minutes per side.  So that’s about 1 song per side with a lil talking in between too.  If you’d like one of those, I’d be happy to make you one for $4!  But you can also wait for me to do the longer ones, if this turns out to be a good idea.

But as for now, just let me know if you think this is a good or bad idea!  Would you be interested enough to pick one up?  Is there anything else I could do to make it a more fun experience?  Tell me what you think!  Thank you!  Bye!

THE HELLA SHORT RUN OF FIVE 10-MINUTE TAPES IS UP, IF YOU’RE INTERESTED!

The money goes toward the 25-minute run, and there will be more than 5.

Space Boyfriend - Live Mode Jam 09-06-12

At PAX, I had the honor of playing LSDJ Live Mode drum machine to a crazy-good soul keyboardist, Robbie Benson of Super Soul Bros (http://supersoulbros.com).  I created a ton of little rhythms and beats right there on the spot that went with whatever Robbie was playing.  It proved to be a ton of fun.  I can’t provide the same sick keyboard jams that Robbie did, but I wrote a small little progression and melody just to be the backing so I could demo some of these beats I made.  I hope you dig it!  Here’s just a few minutes of me playing around in Live Mode with the stuff I did.

I tried to upload this like four times today.  Yeesh.  LET’S DO THIS

fuzzheads - //TURN//
I have been waiting for this EP since I saw them at the Blip Festival open mic. They didn’t have time to set up all of their equipment that night and ended up shouting the lyrics to their song but it didn’t matter, we were all into it.
Blink-182 era punk guitar riffs meet the Game Boy’s particular brand of electronic synthesis with some brilliant vocal work. The perfect EP for an afternoon of this frankly strange summer, kick back, crack open that tequila-soaked watermelon and blast this on you roof. The instrumental interludes between the EP’s tracks (the tracks marked with double slashes) are actually kind of a perfect way to transition between the energies of each track.
Moreso, Thomas, Rebecca and Ryan are part of what I see as a new wave of chip musicians that make me excited for the future, even in the wake of Blip Festival’s indefinite pause. I can’t wait to go to the show where Slime Girls, fuzzheads and Space Boyfriend inevitably rock the house to its foundation.
More: their previous project, The Clumsy Astronauts, never got a proper release, but has several tracks up on SoundCloud (of which, Giant’s Causeway has been played an EMBARRASSING number of times by my account). Feel free to like the fuzzheads on Facebook too! 39 is a criminally low number of Likes.

aaaaaaaah!!! i met dannel briefly at blipfest and he’s been super great ever since! thanks 4 this incredibly ~sick~ writeup of my band’s EP!

Seriously, seriously guys.

Here we are, at long last.  Over a year in the making.
Space Boyfriend - Bug Spray
A story about two kids, one from space and one from Earth, who made each other laugh a lot and cry a lot.
album art by the hyperfantastic Jane Mai

I’ve worked on this for so long.  There are a couple songs on here that are actually four years old, if you can believe it.  Now, Bug Spray is out.  Please listen to it, please share it around if you like it.  This has been a huge part of my life for the past year and for it to be out finally is huge for me.  I hope you enjoy it, or can at least look past the bad mixing enough to see how much heart and effort I put into it.
Thank you so much. <3

Just doin’ another reblog on this because I’m realizing that releasing a record on Batman day is probably not the best executive decision I’ve made.

Space Boyfriend - Watermelon Party

Oh how the stars do shine off the reflection of the juice upon your face, so fine~

This is “Watermelon Party”, honorable grandfather of such jams as “Cutie Cake”, “Whatcha Doin’”, and “Burger Date”!

This is a preview track for my album “Bug Spray”, coming July 20th, 2012!  This is only one of many jams, but the only one about watermelons and featuring kazoos.

It’s a song about watermelons, parties, and how much you wanna smooch the cutie next to you with watermelon juice all over their face.

Please share, spread the word about the album coming next friday, and tell me what you think!

art by Thymine~

Did you miss this jam I posted earlier today?  It’s got tambourines and kazoos and shit, yo.

An instrumental cover of “Yeah!” by Usher, Lil Jon and Ludacris circa 2004.

I legitimately really like this song, whoops.  Reblog if you like it.

Lyrics will only be performed live~*
