Was anyone planning on translating/subbing the 23 minute interview on the Eureka Seven AO BDs with Koji Nakamura, the composer of the show? I really, really want to understand these words.
In just one episode, this series tells a beautiful love story, makes you care, and then philosophizes endlessly on the nature of love, nature, and humanity.
If you think this isn’t a powerful episode, then why care so much at the end when you find out what happens to Will and Martha?
Agreed. I’m of the thought that nothing bad happens to them at the end, though. I think everyone affected by what happened was taken away with half of the scubs to another plane of existence to try to coexist. That’s why it targets the people with desperation disease, who all had a deeper understanding of the world and the desire of the scub coral. It makes sense to me, anyway. It makes less sense to think that suddenly these horrifying things are happening out of nowhere, to me it seemed more likely that those events were the scubs evacuating and avoiding the limit of questions being reached. That’s what Nirvash says at the end, too. A lot of Eureka Seven’s workings are based on real-world mythology, and maybe isn’t something that translates super well, but the idea of higher planes of existence are scattered throughout the story and play a great role in that mythos they create.

I don’t even know anything about the ending, I only got to episode 17 but it just didn’t have the same magic/quality to it at all. It was too “anime”, none of the characters were that interesting to me, and the only parts that ever made me excited were parts that directly referenced the original.
I don’t even think AO had to be directly involved with the original, it just had to be interesting on its own, and it just seemed to me that the team working on AO weren’t intending to tell a story of any sort of consequence or respect for the original work. It’s true that it’s unfair to say a work is good because of one person in a whole team, but with Dai Sato’s absence, it’s glaringly obvious what he brought the the universe of Eureka Seven through both the original series and the film.
It sucks because everything else about it aside from the story/world is top notch; my favorite and most inspiring/personally influential musician of all time did the score, the character design is 100% because Yoshida is a god damned champion, and the visual direction is on point for days. But the show is just confusing, disrespectful of the original material (if what I’ve heard about trapar/scubs being harmful is true, what, are you fucking kidding me right now) pandering, and overall just boring.
I still intend to finish it, but aside from the amazing promise of episode 1 and 2, I don’t think I ever liked the show that much. Which blows. Anyone who knows me knows how much E7 means to me, so for me to be so catastrophically uninterested in AO is a damned shame. Maybe I’m also painting it in bitterness and am busting on it now more than I maybe would have if I finished it, maybe in retrospect I’ve just ranted about it to the point where I’ve made myself dislike it even more without ground. I should give it the respect enough at least to finish the damned thing, but maybe when BD rips come out, since they look SO FRESH, as you’ve shown us! Thanks for that. Thanks for the conflict~
